Our purpose is to close the gap of “food insecurity” and assist communities in times of disaster
Our Community Circle (OCC) is the result of a long-term vision that aims to connect the community with desperately needed resources.
This vision started years ago while watching a Houston evening news broadcast – one like we’ve seen too many times. The news story was of an apartment building fire where everyone (thankfully) was able to escape unharmed but unfortunately lost everything. Even though everyone that the reporter interviewed had a very positive outlook on this very unfortunate situation, I wondered where they would go, what they would do. Most of these families were made up of children and they had most likely lost all of their possessions, food, and money. The victims would need a new home, clothing, furniture, food, and possibly counseling.
Additionally, feeding the hungry has always been a core focus of our purpose. Meeting the constant need of the hungry along with dynamic needs of the community, describes the role that OCC was created to play in serving those in need.
Our Community Circle Inc. (OCC) is a service-based 501(c)3 non-profit primarily serving the Greater Houston, TX area and surrounding communities. Our primary focus is feeding the hungry - reducing “food insecurity”. We perform our services through two tiers. The first tier is our “active” tier (Tier One).
Through Tier One, we deliver resources directly to those in need, such as feeding the homeless. But we also utilize this tier to serve those in times of disaster, whether it is a natural disaster or a fire that displaces a family from their home or several families in a multi-family dwelling.
Our second tier is our “passive” tier (Tier Two). Through this tier we utilize partnerships and serve the community by being a “hub” to connect it with the right resources, given their specific needs. Within this arm of our organization, we are constantly adding additional partners that we support, as well as partners that support us.
